Why International Tiger Day Matters

Over the past century, the global tiger population has decreased by 95% in the wild, leaving only around 3,100 tigers remaining. The main contributors to this decline include habitat loss and poaching for the illegal wildlife trade to fill the global demand for tiger bone, skin, and other body parts.
Approximately 93% of the tigers' historical habitats have been lost to human activities. We must protect these felines. So, as we observe International Tiger Day, we aim to raise awareness about their current state and advocate for stricter laws against poaching and the illegal trade industry.
Unique Features of Tigers
- The tiger's coat features orange fur with dark vertical stripes extending to the skin. Like human fingerprints, each tiger has a unique stripe pattern.
- Tigers are the most prominent members of the Panthera family and the largest of the world’s big cats. Male Siberian tigers can weigh up to 660 pounds and reach 10 feet long. Despite their size, tigers are also adept swimmers.
- Wild tigers typically live for 10 to 15 years. With proper care and a steady food supply, those in captivity can live well beyond 20 years.
