What is Moment Health?

Moment Health is a technology company bringing early intervention digitally to women’s mental health issues.

Our evidence & analytics-based technology provides valuable and accurate data that allows users and their clinicians to take the right steps towards diagnosis and recovery.

The prevalence of antenatal or postnatal depression and associated anxieties is evident in the data regarding sufferers – 20% of women and 10% of men globally. Suicide is a leading cause of death for women in pregnancy and during the first year postpartum on a par with bleeding and high blood pressure.

Even for those without suicidal ideations, maternal depression has been shown to alter the experiences of mothers for years to come. However, research indicates that with early intervention there is an 80-90% chance of a full recovery.

Moment Health is the first to tackle this, helping all parents and especially offering support to parents at risk. The Moment Health App equips mothers with the evidence and knowledge they need to seek help and sustain good mental health such as:

  • An evidence-based checker to help identify symptoms
  • A tracker for keeping a journal of your emotions, promoting reflective practice and improve moods
  • A community for connection and peer support
  • A locator to signpost to local services

What inspired you to start?

With a background in marketing and business development where I have worked over the previous decade, I developed a strong foundation and deep domain knowledge across health, technology and marketing. I combined an acute understanding of market research and active networking with key stakeholders to define the early service offering I wanted to produce – a business plan that gained early validation then led to a successful early-stage investment with TechStart Ventures.

What have you achieved so far?

Moment Health has spent 18 months engaging intensely across all stakeholders focused on maternal mental health and wellbeing; charity’s clinicians, lived survivors, community groups, researchers and employers to gain an in-depth understanding of the problems faced.

This has allowed Moment Health to design and build a solution which is specific to the unique and tailored needs of women and their families at this time as well as flexible and scalable globally.

We have built an evidenced-based product for the consumer that can be deployed via healthcare. Our primary focus for now. Our parallel strategy is to keep relationships going with companies and employers. We have learned the education gap is too big for selling a software as a service solution immediately and have expanded our offering to mental health first aid training until that gap closes.

When that turns digital we will have positioned ourselves as the supplier of choice. Further down the road, we’re looking to engage with health insurers and really benefit from the excellent early stage interest we’ve already established. This is where capital will enable our scale and growth.

What do you wish you’d known at the beginning?

Its a journey. Nobody knows it all. Its tougher than you could ever imagine. Take feedback as learning.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give an aspiring changemaker?

Stay true to your mission.

How can people get involved in your project and help out?

I’d love to connect with impact investors or potential partners.
