Recognition of unmet mental health needs is growing. In the UK, 10 million British adults are diagnosed with at least one mental health problem each year. It’s estimated that in the UK, 70% of young people who experience a mental health issue don’t have access to the support and treatment they need . In the UK, men’s mental health is still stigmatised and underdiscussed. Globally, depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability.
In the UK and worldwide, change is happening slowly. For example, many workplaces are breaking the silence and stigma associated with mental ill-health. Solutions include more informed HR policies, managerial awareness, and proactive measures to allow employees to ‘give back’ to their community and contribute more fully to family life.
